The proposal at a glance
Architectural Plans have been commissioned to construct an environmentally sustainable, energy efficient home of a high-quality design that will provide flexible accommodation in an inclusive layout accommodating wheelchair and ambulant disabled users. The design of the proposed home has been extensively influenced by the site topography and the desire to reduce perceived mass – as a result an upside down living arrangement is proposed; the principal living area would be located in the upper storey (accessed from the roadside) designed as two separate 'living' pods linked by a glazed space with a sedum roof. This enables the whole space to appear as a single-storey building.
Meanwhile, the lower storey is designed to merge with the topography of the sloping landscape with only one rear elevation being visible – and this is the elevation facing the Malvern Hills in the north-east and away from the road and focal point. The design of the proposed building, particularly the form of its roof structure, takes its inspiration from the traditional form of hop kiln buildings in Herefordshire and the agricultural character of the local area. The design specifies that the proposed buildings would be roofed in a dark-grey standing seam with walls finished in blackened timber boarding and part of the lower storey built from masonry.
The material palette is one of high quality, using natural and environmentally sustainable materials celebrating vernacular traditions and simultaneously achieving a contemporary execution which is appropriate for a 21st century home.
The location and elevation of this new site with its wonderful countryside views and amenities must be seen to appreciate its potential. The adjacent woodland plot, as stated, is also available for purchase via a separate negotiation – and this would prove particularly advantageous to any potential purchaser who would want to preserve the fantastic views. Please contact Hamilton Stiller for further details about this.
